GAINESVILLE, FL-  The Florida Gators will need to be almost perfect on Saturday to keep their SEC East title hopes alive. The offense, defense, and special teams will all have to do their parts on the field for the victory.

A distraction-free practice week certainly wouldn’t hurt.

And although the Gators have glaring injuries on both sides of the ball, the players have remained upbeat.

On Thursday, however, a bombshell distraction was dropped on the team.

Star kicker Eddy Piñeiro was cited by the University Police Department for Criminal Mischief and property damage. The charges are both misdemeanors.

According to The Independent Florida Alligator, two students witnessed Piñeiro push over two scooters that were parked next to his. Piñeiro then allegedly started kicking the scooters and ripping off the side mirrors.

UPD Sgt. Jeff Lamb said the case had been sent to the state attorney’s office for further review.

Florida head coach Jim McElwain seemed to know nothing of the situation when asked if Eddy would be kicking for Florida this weekend. Instead, Coach praised the way Piñeiro has been kicking in practice.

More to come as this story is still developing.  Stay informed with The Gator Chomp.
