FINAL: FLORIDA 3, WISCONSIN 2 (2OT)

GAINESVILLE, FL-  The Florida Gators are moving on to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Division 1 soccer tournament after a 3-2, double overtime victory over Wisconsin on Friday.
Florida scored the game winner after a perfect though pass from Mayra Pelayo to Meggie Dougherty Howard.  Howard then sent a pass to Brooke Sharp, who one-timed the ball into the back of the net and sent Florida to the next round.

Both teams played a fast-paced first half, but neither team was able to get a goal.  The second half saw two penalty kick goals as Dougherty Howard scored the first goal for Florida and Wisconsin’s Micaela Powers converted on her attempt in the 66th minute.

Florida took the 1-0 lead, and appeared to sit back and try to hold the lead.  The strategy failed as the Badgers took a 2-1 lead in the 77th minute.

Facing an early elimination, the Gators fought hard and in the next minute, Florida earned a corner kick.  Dougherty Howard sent the corner in and Savannah Jordan and a Wisconsin defender battled for the ball.  Ultimately, the Badgers defender headed the ball into the net.

Florida outshot Wisconsin 18-13, including an 11-5 edge in shots on goal.  Florida earned seven corners, despite none in the first half.
