
Gainesville, FL – As if 2020 wasn’t already the worst year in history, Florida fans got some awful news on Saturday afternoon as Ben Hill Griffin Stadium caught fire. Firefighters were called to The Swamp after a fire broke out near one of the scoreboards along Stadium Road.

The fire has since been extinguished and officials are assessing the damage, though it appears to be minimal. Per UF, the fire was caused by a maintenance tractor. No one was injured and the stadium endured no structural damage.

Florida opens the season at Mississippi on September 26 before their home opener against South Carolina on October 3.
