The Florida Gators coaching staff has taken a lot of heat on social media about their inabilities to land the stud recruits out of high school. While that may or may not be the case, it’s undeniable the job Dan Mullen and his staff has done with the NCAA Transfer Portal.

The Gators added former 5-star TE Arik Gilbert via the portal on Sunday. Gilbert announced his commitment to the program via Twitter:

The Marietta, Georgia native was the No. 1 TE in the 2020 recruiting class (per 247Sports) and the No. 5 player in the nation overall. Gilbert signed with LSU out of high school.

As a true freshman, the 6’5, 249 lb tight end, hauled in 35 grabs for 368 yards and two scores in eight games.

Florida has now landed two five-star transfers with all four years of eligibility remaining (Demarkcus Bowman) in the last few months.

The February Signing Period opens this Wednesday. Florida is not expected to land any new players as the staff is expected to add another transfer or two this spring.
