Trailing by one run entering the seventh inning, Florida right-hander Natalie Lugo allowed a walk and an infield single before Georgia catcher Payden Bordeau hit a three-run shot to open up a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom half, Bulldogs pitcher Mary Wilson Avant threw a one-two-three inning to cap off her 16th complete game this season.
Following three straight NCAA Regional victories last weekend, No. 4 Florida dropped game one of its Super Regional to Georgia 4-0 Friday at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
After two hitless innings, Georgia right fielder Jaiden Fields led off the top of the third with a solo shot — her sixth home run this year — to center field.
The Gators drew a pair of walks in the bottom of the third but failed to get on the scoreboard. An inning later, first baseman Kendyl Lindaman hit a one-out double, but two quick outs stranded her in scoring position.
In the top of the fifth, Lugo found herself in a no-out, bases-loaded jam until she forced a groundout to third baseman Charla Echols. Echols got the force out at home before catcher Julia Cottrill threw a laser to third base where shortstop Sarah Longley applied the tag to pull off a clutch double play.
Florida managed only two baserunners across the final three frames. Center fielder Cheyenne Lindsey singled in the fifth inning and Lindaman — who provided Florida’s only offensive spark — knocked her second double of the game in the sixth.
