Florida head coach Billy Napier has poached Auburn’s defensive coordinator to help assist one of the worst units in program history.
Ron Roberts is joining the Florida staff as the executive head coach of defense as well as the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Roberts joined the Auburn staff following Hugh Freeze’s hiring last year. The Tigers finished third in the SEC in pass defense and second in turnovers forced (18).
Prior to his stint on the Plains, Roberts served as defensive coordinator at Baylor, where his squad ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 in run defense.
From 2007-17, Roberts was the head coach of Delta State and Southeastern Louisiana, where he oversaw a 89-45 overall record.
