Gators Baseball Coach Kevin O’Sullivan officially announced the 2024 season weekend rotation. The rotation includes Cade Fisher on Fridays, freshman Liam Peterson on Saturdays, and junior two-way star Jac Caglianone.
Cade Fisher, in his freshman year, made 27 appearances, including 2 starts. Fisher had a 3.10 ERA and a 6-0 record. The lefty proved himself in the biggest stage at the College World Series last season. He appeared in 5 out of the 6 games in the CWS, posting a 3.52 ERA. He allowed 3 runs and across 7 2/3 frames. Fisher proved himself when put in against Oral Roberts after the Gators had to pull Neely after they were out of mound visits. Fisher saved the Gators, allowing 2 hits and a run in 1.1 innings and recorded the save. Fisher comes into this season with valuable experience in high-pressure situations where he proved he deliver.
Liam Peterson will be starting on Saturdays, a very big honor for a freshman. Peterson went to Calvary Christian and had a 1.78 ERA in his senior year. He earned 2023 Class 3A Player of the Year with 73 strikeouts and a 5-2 record. In his junior year he posted an impressive 0.75 ERA and 68 strikeouts. Peterson was the No. 34 player and No. 8 right-handed pitcher in his class. There will be high expectations for Peterson entering this role, but given his high-school numbers, he should prove himself this season.
Jac Caglianone resumes his regular weekend spot from last season. In his starts last year, Caglianone posted a 7-4 record with a 4.34 ERA. Caglianone’s fast ball is where he excels, frequently getting up to triple digits. The Gators will need a bit more consistency from him throwing strikes this season, but he proved himself in the 2023 season as an arm they can go to in the rotation.
The 2024 season kicks off on Friday against St. John’s at Condron Family Ballpark. The Gators will play a series on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
