BSB: Gators Outslug Aggies in SEC Opener

In opening day of SEC play, the Gators welcome the Texas A&M Aggies to Gainesville for an early season top-10 Friday night game. The Aggies came in undefeated, but the Gators handed them their first loss of the season. The Gators win 8-6 in an impressive offensive night and solid outing by Fisher.

Jac Caglianone got things started in the first with a solo homerun to give the Gators an early 1-0 lead.

Shelton doubled to center field, and Evans singled to score Shelton. Gators up 2-0.

The Aggies responded in the second, putting up five runs to take a 5-2 lead. Fisher was able to go 1-2-3 and get two strikeouts in the third.

Caglianone hit his second homerun of the day, his seventh of the season. Heyman was hit by a pitch and Shelton singled. Shelnut took advantage and hit a three run homerun to give the Gators a 6-5 lead.

A&M responded to tie the game, 6-6, with a solo homerun.

Kurland had a response of his own in the bottom of the sixth to give the Gators a 7-6. The homerun was an estimated 444 feet.

Brandon Neely entered the game in the seventh, finishing Fisher’s day after six innings and 109 pitches thrown. Fisher tied his career high 10 strikeouts in an impressive outing by the sophomore.

Colby Shelton got in on the offensive action with a solo homerun, his tenth of the season. Gators now up 8-6.

Neely kept the Aggie off the board in the eighth, stranding two runners with his first strikeout of the game.

Neely closed things out in the ninth going 1-2-3. He finished with three strikeouts on the night.

The Gators win 8-6 and improve to 11-6 on the season.

Game two will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
