Saturday, the No. 10 Florida Gators completed a comeback of their own against the No. 17 Mississippi State Bulldogs after giving up the lead in Friday’s contest.
Keagan Rothrock gave up three runs in the first three frames as the Gators (31-5, 7-2 SEC) stayed quiet offensively.
But, as on most days, Florida’s offense woke up. Saturday, it was led by catcher Jocelyn Erickson who totaled three RBI with the game winning home run.
Ava Brown scored the first Gator runs on a two-run shot in the top of the fourth inning. However, the Bulldogs (25-9, 6-6 SEC) added three more to their lead in the fourth.
Down by three runs going into the fifth inning, the Gators mustered two runs to chip away at the Bulldogs’ lead.
The Bulldogs were unable to respond before Skylar Wallace tripled and drove in Kendra Falby. Then, Erickson hit the two-run home run to give the Gators a lead going into the bottom of the seventh.
Rothrock held the Bulldogs to no runs in the seventh and secured the series win for the Gators.
With the victory, the Gators collected their third straight SEC series win.
Florida’s next game is Wednesday at 6 p.m. in DeLand, Florida, against Stetson.
