Despite out-hitting the Tigers seven to four and strong efforts from the pitching staff of Peterson and Purnell, the Gators lose their first SEC series of the season on Saturday, falling by a score of 4-3 to Mizzou in game two.
Mizzou got on the board first again in the first, taking an early 2-0 lead on a wild pitch and then an RBI single.
It was quiet for both teams until the fifth inning when Guy had an RBI single to score Donay and put the Gators on the board, now only down 2-1.
The Gators continued to fight back with a leadoff single from Kurland in the top of the sixth and then Caglianone did Jac Caglianone things and hit his 15th homerun of the season to give the Gators a 3-2 lead.
The Tigers had a response in the bottom of the sixth, taking a 4-3 lead, scoring off of a wild pitch again.
Peterson had an outstanding outing, throwing nine strikeouts in six innings. Blake Purnell took over in the seventh. Purnell had a three strikeouts in two innings out of the bullpen.
The offense couldn’t get things going for a comeback, despite having two baserunners in scoring position in the eighth.
