
The Gators looked to avoid a sweep Sunday afternoon in Missouri, but fell just short in the ninth inning by a score of 11-10. Jac Caglianone struggled in his start, but the bullpen provided strong relief outings and recently slumping offense had some highlights, including Colby Shelton’s two homeruns.
Mizzou got off to a quick start off of a struggling Caglianone, taking a 4-0 lead in the first.
Heyman got things going for the Gators with a solo homerun in the second. Gators now down 4-1.
The Tigers added three more in the second, taking a 7-1 lead.
Shelton got a three run homerun in the third, showing life in the Gator offense after he has been struggling in SEC play as of late. Gators now only down 7-4.
Mizzou added another run, now up 8-4, off of a solo homerun.
Even though he didn’t have a strong day on the mound, Caglianone continued to produce on offense in the sixth with a two run homerun. He leads the team with 16 homeruns on the season. Gators down 8-6.
The Gators tied the game in the seventh inning with an RBI double from Shelnut. The Gators then added another on a walked run home. Tie game 8-8.
Shelton hit his second homerun of the day to give the Gators their first lead of the game in the top of the eighth, 10-8.
Despite loading the bases in the ninth, the Gators couldn’t add any runs on in the ninth. The Tigers then had a comeback and a walk-off win, winning 11-10. The Gators fall to 17-14 overall and 6-6 in SEC play.
Caglianone pitched for one and one third inning. The bullpen of Purnell, Slater, Fisher and McNeillie combined for 10 strikeouts.
They will travel to Tallahassee Tuesday for the series finale against Florida State at 7 p.m. They will then host South Carolina for a series this upcoming weekend.
