In a hard fought game between two great teams, only one can come out on top. Unfortunately for No. 10 Florida, today No. 5 LSU ended up in the win column.

The Gators (33-6, 8-3 SEC) battled for a win over Tigers (31-5, 9-5 SEC) but ultimately came up short in another close game.

“Some days you go out there, and you have your best stuff, and you lose,” starting pitcher Ava Brown said following the loss. “And some days you go out and feel really off, and you win.”

The Tigers took an early 2-0 lead through the first three frames. The Gators’ offense woke up in the fourth to record its first hit and first run.

Brown got the Gators on the board with a sacrifice fly to drive in Korbe Otis. Otis added to the score in the fifth inning on an RBI single to score Kendra Falby.

Florida took the lead in the sixth inning when Brooke Barnard scored Katie Kistler on a pinch-hit RBI double.

Keagan Rothrock entered as relief in hopes of securing a Florida win and a save of her own. However, the Tigers got one back to make it a 3-3 ballgame in the top of the seventh.

LSU held Florida scoreless in the bottom of the seventh before taking a one-run lead on a sacrifice fly in the first extra inning.

The Gators couldn’t find a response and fell to the Tigers in eight innings.

“We just got to do a better job overall,” reigning SEC Player of the Year Skylar Wallace said. “And just kind of refocus and regroup, and then come back out tomorrow, lights out.’

Florida will try to take the series Monday evening against LSU at 7 p.m.
