SB: No. 9 Florida suffers midweek loss at hands of USF

The No. 9 Gators had previously carried a 26-game win streak over the Bulls into Wednesday evening’s contest. However, USF (28-15) upset Florida (34-7) to snap the streak and hand the Gators their third home loss of 2024.

There was no action through the first three innings for both teams until the Gators scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Katie Kistler hit a two-run RBI double before starting pitcher Ava Brown hit a sacrifice fly to score Baylee Goddard.

However, the Bulls quickly responded with a six-run fifth inning. Although throwing four and one third innings of shutout softball, Brown gave up three of those runs.

Then, Keagan Rothrock came in as relief and gave up the other three, two of which reached home on back-to-back bases loaded walks.

The Orange and Blue got one back in the bottom of the sixth but not before the Bulls added a run in the top of the inning off of Olivia Miller.

Coming up, the Gators will head to Columbia, Missouri, to take on No. 14 Mizzou in a three-game series.
