Even though Jac Caglianone tied the NCAA record for nine consecutive games with a home run, the Gators fell short, 5-2, and drop the series against Vanderbilt. It’s the third consecutive series they’ve lost in SEC play.

Coppola started for the second week in a row, throwing 48 pitches in 1.2 innings and striking out one. Peterson came in for Coppola, but was hit in the arm in the fifth and immediately exited the game.

The Commodores got on the board first with two runs in the first to make it 2-0. Then they added another with a solo home run in the third, making it 3-0.

The Gators offense got going in the sixth with a solo home run from Donay and then another home run from Caglianone to make it 3-2. Caglianone tied the NCAA record for nine consecutive games with a home run.

The Commodores pulled away by adding two more runs in the eighth, now up 5-2.

The Gators failed to get anyone on base in the ninth and lose with a final score of 5-2.

The Gators drop the series and fall to 7-10 in SEC play on the weekend. They have lost their last three SEC series after winning their first three.

The series finale is at 3 p.m. Sunday.
