At “Swiftie” night at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium, Florida fans went home early.
Although a competitive game for most of the night, No. 16 Florida State broke open the score with a 12-run fifth inning, propelling them to a win over No. 12 Florida.
The Gators (37-11) took an early 2-0 lead through the first four frames. Ava Brown brought in the first run on an RBI double to score Jocelyn Erickson in the second.
Then, Reagan Walsh hit her team-leading 15th home run to give the Orange and Blue the two-run lead.
But things took a turn in the fifth inning.
Florida had three errors, as the Seminoles (37-10) homered twice and scored twelve runs in the inning.
Relief pitcher Mackenzie Wooten was ultimately charged with the loss.
Florida got one back in the bottom of the fifth when Walsh scored Skylar Wallace on an RBI single.
However, the Gators couldn’t get a rally going and fell in five innings due to the run rule.
Florida will head to Athens this weekend to take on No. 11 Georgia for a three-game series.
