Gainesville, FL- Wednesday night was the first WCA Gator Talk show for the football season. It was also a night of nostalgia for many Gators fans as former Heisman Trophy winner and National Champion coach Steve Spurrier was on hand.
Current Florida Athletic Director Jeremy Foley was also on hand. Foley has announced his retirement effective October 1.
Many fans took the opportunity to thank both Coach Spurrier and Foley for their contributions while also asking questions about their favorite moments.
Spurrier told the standing-room only crowd at Piesanos that he has no interest in coaching the team, but that he will be used as support for head coach Jim McElwain and his staff.
Foley answered a question about his interest in writing a book by saying he has no interest and even joked that it would require a large advance. Spurrier responded to Foley’s answer by saying he had a new book coming out and will be holding a signing at the University Bookstore the day of the first game.
Florida will be honoring Spurrier prior to the first game against UMASS on September 3. They have already begun the process of naming the stadium after him. The stadium will be known as Steve Spurrier-Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
