FINAL: FLORIDA 13, VANDERBILT 6

NASHVILLE, TN-  The Florida Gators followed up their second half collapse in Knoxville with a similar offensive effort.  However, this time Florida’s defense came to the rescue.  The Gators’ defense only allowed 265 yards of total offense to Vanderbilt, with only 118 of those coming from the Commodores’ passing game.  Florida’s offense was held to only 236 yards with 144 coming in the air.  Austin Appleby started his second consecutive game, replacing Luke Del Rio who was injured against North Texas.  Appleby finished the day going 19-28 but only averaged 5.1 yards per attempt.
Jordan Scarlett led the Gators in rushing with 12 carries for 55 yards and a touchdown.  No other Florida running back carried more than six times.  For Vanderbilt, Gainesville High graduate Ralph Webb rushed for 110 yards.  Webb entered the game leading the SEC in rushing yards.

Florida sits one game behind Tennessee in the SEC East standings after the Volunteers beat Georgia with a hail mary completion as time expired.

The Gators got on the board in the second quarter as Jordan Scarlett plunged into the endzone from four yards out.  Vanderbilt added three points on a 38 yard field goal by Tommy Openshaw before Eddy Pineiro extended Florida’s lead with a 42 yard field goal as the half expired.

While Florida’s offense was unable to add another touchdown, Vanderbilt was able to tack on a 27 yard kick by Openshaw to bring Vanderbilt to within one score.

The defensive struggle continued in the fourth quarter as Florida was only able to add a Pineiro 26 yard field goal.
