GAINESVILLE, FL- The Florida Gators lacrosse team opened the 2017 season with a home date against #1 ranked, and defending national champion, North Carolina. The Gators fought hard but fell to the Tar Heels 13-10 at Dizney Stadium.
Florida’s Syndey Pirreca scored in the first minute of play to give Florida a 1-0 lead, however this would be the only lead of the game for the Gators. It was a mostly back and forth game for both sides.
Sisters Shayna and Sydney Pirreca both led Florida with three goals apiece. Mollie Stevens added two goals while Sammi Burgess and Carli Marsh each scored one goal.
North Carolina was led by Sammy Jo Tracy who scored a game high four goals and Molly Hendrick who added three more.

Florida will play the Scotland National Team in an exhibition on Wednesday February 15 at 5 PM at Dizney Stadium. On Friday, February 24 the Gators will face Southern California in Gainesville at 6:30 PM.
