Fullerton, CA– Florida softball rebounded from a tough loss to #2 UCLA Wednesday night with a pair of Thursday morning victories that were keyed by strong pitching performances.

Game Two

Final: Florida 2, Oregon 1

In the second game of the day, Florida defeated #20 Oregon to earn their fourth victory over top-25 competition on the year.

In a battle between two if the top pitchers in the country, Florida’s Kelly Barnhill handed Oregon’s Jordan Dail with her first loss of the year.

Barnhill was actually the first to surrender as she gave up a fifth inning solo homer to the Ducks’ first baseman April Utecht.

Florida responded with a two out rally that produced two runs in the bottom half of the fifth. Jade Caraway reached on an error and scored two hitters later on a single up the middle by Kendyl Lindaman. Haven Sampson (pinch ran for Lindaman) came around to score the winning run on Jaimie Hoover’s single.

The lead was all Barnhill needed as she retired all six Oregon hitters she faced in the sixth and seventh frames.

  • Kelly Barnhill’s final line: 7 IP, 3 H, 1ER, 9 K, 1 BB.
  • Amanda Lorenz went 1-2 with a double and a walk.
