Final: Florida 78, Vanderbilt 66
The Florida Gators earned their first road win of the season in the regular season finale. Florida defeated Vanderbilt by a 78-66 final score largely thanks to a strong second half effort.
Funda Nakkasoglu fueled the effort by going off in the third quarter. Nakkasoglu went into the halftime break with only two points but score eighteen of the team’s twenty four in the third period of play.
Nakkasoglu scored her 2,000th career point with a made free throw during her third quarter run.
Delicia Washington also played a major role in the win, compiling yet another double-double (20 points and 11 rebounds).
Florida failed to make any of their seven three point attempts in the opening half of play, but relied on baskets down low to stay in the game.
In the second half the Gators had much more success behind the three point arc, going 7-13.
Washington helped secure the victory by knocking down all six of her free throw attempts in the final few minutes of the game.
Florida secures the #13 seed with the win and will open the SEC Tournament with a game against Ole Miss (9-21,3-13). The Rebels defeated Florida 76-66 in January.
The Gators will take on Mississippi on Wednesday at 11:00 AM in Greenville, SC.
