SB: #6 Florida shuts out #10 Louisiana 6-0 in series opener

Final: Florida 6, Louisiana 0

The #6 Florida Gators beat the #10 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns at home on Friday night by a score of 6-0. It was the first of a 3-game home series. Florida improved to 17-2 for the season (9-0 at home), while Louisiana dropped to 12-5 overall.

Game Recap

Florida took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Charla Echols drove in Kendyl Lindaman on a single to the gap in left-center.

Natalie Lugo got the start for the Gators, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings before Katie Chronister entered the circle in relief.

Louisiana starting pitcher, Megan Kleist, settled in well following the first-inning hiccup until the fourth when Sophia Reynoso’s RBI-single extended the Gators lead to 2-0.

In the fifth, Florida added on two insurance runs thanks to Kendyl Lindaman’s moonshot solo home run over the Florida bullpen in left field. A few batters later, Julia Cottrill knocked an RBI-single up the middle to give the Gators a 4-0 lead.

An inning later, Charla Echols drove in Hannah Adams, and pinch-runner Sarah Longley scored as Echols got caught in a rundown. Florida would take a 6-0 advantage into the seventh inning.

The Gators took a 6-0 advantage into the seventh inning when Katie Chronister closed things out to simultaneously record her first win and Florida’s seventeenth win of the season.

Looking Ahead

Games two and three of the weekend series will be held tomorrow at 1 ET and on Sunday at 12 ET. The Gators will host Florida Gulf Coast this Wednesday before opening up conference play next weekend against Auburn.
