Defensive lineman Jabari Zuniga was selected as the 4th pick for the New York Jets, No. 79 overall Friday night in the 2020 NFL Draft. Zuniga will be a strong addition to the Jets’ defensive line mainly for his pass-rushing skills.

Zuniga’s buy-in here is his power and versatility – he’s an immovable object when he wants to be, even against larger opponents thanks to his strong hand technique, and he can flip the switch from power blocker to speedy runner quickly and effectively. He’s also played all across the defensive line during his years as a Gator, so the Jets will be able to slot him in a number of different places.
A one-time SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week and a Coaches’ Second Team All-SEC honoree in 2016, Zuniga has had some rare occurrences in his career. In his first season on the field, he made the first extra point block in the SEC Championship since 2003, which was also the first blocked extra point returned for a defensive PAT in the SEC Championship since 1997. In 2018, he became half of the first Gator duo with at least 11 tackles-for-loss in a season since 2015.
The Jets have a strong recent history with Gator draft picks, including LB Jachai Polite in 2019 and S Marcus Maye in 2017, both in the second round.
