Florida baseball has yet another arm that will not be a factor in 2021. Freshman RHP Tyler Nesbitt is set to undergo Tommy John surgery next week, head coach Kevin O’Sullivan said after Wednesday’s 8-3 win over North Florida.

“He’s going to have Tommy John on Wednesday (3/3).”

Nesbitt made an immediate impact as a true freshman a year ago. In five appearances, the Labelle, FL native pitched 11.2 innings without allowing a run. He also struck out 17 batters while only walking three.

Nesbitt was expected to be a go-to guy in the bullpen and see get some starts in midweek action.

O’Sullivan announced last week that RHP Nick Pogue will also miss the season after successful Tommy John surgery.

Tommy John surgery is used to repair the ligament in the elbow and usually takes nearly a year (or more) to recover.
