
The No. 8 Florida Gators women’s volleyball team swept the Tennessee Lady Volunteers in Knoxville with a final score of 3-0 on Thursday. This win advances the Gators to an overall record of 11-2.
The three sets of this match mirrored each other. Similar mistakes made by Tennessee cost them their advantage, and a ruthless Florida offensive and defensive effort put Florida back on top and gave them the match win.
Set 1: 25-20 UF
It was somewhat of a slow start for Florida, trailing Tennessee 9-4. Florida called a timeout and came back to tick away Tennessee’s lead, going on a 11-6 run to take the advantage, 18-16 . The Gators completed an impressive three straight blocks before Tennessee began to notch at the Gators lead. However, the Gators went on a 4-1 run that ultimately gave them the win in the first set.
Set 2: 25-18 UF
Similar to the first set, Tennessee came out strong with a lead over Florida 4-0, and Florida answered with an impressive 9-3 run to give them a two-point advantage at 9-7. The set saw back-and-forth action until Florida ultimately took a three-point lead with a score of 18-15 over Tennessee. Florida finished the set strong, completing a 7-3 run that cinched the second win of the day for Florida.
Set 3: 25-21 UF
Similar to the two previous sets, Tennessee started the set strong with a lead over Florida 9-3. In a similar fashion Florida went on a massive run to cinch the lead. This time Florida went on a 9-2 run to pull ahead. The teams then went toe-to-toe in action. However, a 5-2 run close to the end of the set and an impressive number of blocks gave Florida the final win.

What’s Next?
The Gators return to take on the Lady Volunteers in the second match of the two match series. The match is set to take place Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. in Knoxville.
