Final: Florida 8, Missouri 5
A nearly three hour rain delay wasn’t enough to derail the Gators in the series opener against Missouri on Friday.
Florida’s starter Franco Aleman only lasted 3.1 innings, but Christian Scott retired the first twelve he faced in completing the game and earning his second straight win.
How It Happened:
Jud Fabian got things started for the Gators by taking the first pitch of the second inning and depositing it beyond the outfield wall in left. It was the Ocala native’s twelfth home run of the season.
The Tigers evened the score in the top of the third when a Kirby McMullen error allowed an unearned run.
McMullen redeemed himself in the bottom of the inning when he crushed a three run homer to give Florida a 4-1 advantage. In all the Gators scored six in the third as Jordan Butler (single) and Kendrick Calilao (triple) each recorded RBI hits. Colby Halter also earned an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Mizzou struck again in the fourth as Aleman struggled. Aleman allowed a single, walk, double, single to the first four hitters he faced in the frame. A sacrifice fly plated one more to close the gap to 7-5.
The Gators received a bit of insurance in the eighth when Nathan Hickey doubled in Jordan Carrion.
- W: Scott (2-2)
- L: Seth Halvorsen (3-2)
- Hickey: 4-4, 2 2B, RBI, R, BB
- McMullen: 2-5, HR, 3 RBI
- Fabian: 2-4, HR, 2B, RBI, 2 R
