Athens, Georgia native Phlandrous Fleming scored a season high 27 points while Tyree Appleby added 21 to lead the Gators to victory over rival Georgia on the road Saturday.

Fleming, the grad-transfer who spent four years with Charleston Southern, made 11-18 attempts from the floor, including four three-pointers.

Appleby added five made treys. Florida also received contributions from Myreon Jones (13 points) and Colin Castleton (10 points) to avoid another resume-breaking result before the NCAA Tournament selection show.

However, for the Gators, it still seems to be boom or bust. Fortunately, Saturday, Florida made 14 three point attempts. Unfortunately, based on results of the last few weeks (or years), this trend is likely unsustainable.

The Gators clinched the win with a 10-0 run out of the halftime break that saw the lead swell to as much as 17 early in the second period.

Individual Stats:

  • Fleming: 27 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists
  • Appleby: 21 points, 7 rebounds
  • Castleton: 10 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists

What’s Next:

Florida will travel to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores in its second to last SEC game.

The Commodores are 14-14 overall and 6-10 in SEC action. They dropped a 74-69 decision to Mississippi State on Saturday.
