The Gators, who were ranked as high as No. 12 in the AP rankings in February, were hurt by All-SEC guard Kiki Smith being injured for the remainder of the season and for suffering four losses in their final five contests.
Florida will enter the tournament leaning on veteran guard Zippy Broughton, who is the team’s second leading scorer (behind Smith) at 10.5 per game.
UCF is 25-3 on the year and was the No. 1 seed in the American Athletic Conference tournament last week (which they won). The Knights have never won an NCAA tournament game and are 0-26 against the Gators, dating back to 1978.
