After splitting the first two games of the series, the Gators run-ruled the Aggies 11-3 Sunday after six innings in College Station, Texas.
Florida captures its second straight SEC series while improving to 25-3 overall and in 4-2 conference play.
Senior right-hander Elizabeth Hightower started in the circle for the Gators and went the distance en route to earning her eighth win this season. Hightower gave up three earned runs for just the second time this year and allowed a season-high eight hits.
Offensively, the bottom half of Florida’s lineup produced the bulk of its runs. After managing to score only one run through the first three frames, the Gators drove in five runs in the top of the fourth.
Senior center fielder Cheyenne Lindsey belted a three-run homer — her second this season — before freshman catcher Sam Roe roped an RBI double to the left-field wall and later scored to give Florida a 6-2 advantage.
An inning later, Roe and sophomore left fielder Katie Kistler lined back-to-back RBI singles up the middle to put the Gators up 8-2. A Texas A&M solo shot in the bottom of the fifth cut the deficit to 8-3, but Florida freshman Reagan Walsh answered in the top of the sixth with a three-run bomb to capture a run-rule lead.
In the bottom half, Hightower delivered a 10-pitch, one-two-three, inning to clinch the run-rule victory.
