EUGENE, OR-  The Florida Gators volleyball team knew their season opening weekend wouldn’t be easy. The Gators are participating in the Vert Challenge at the University of Oregon with several of the best programs in the country, including number one ranked Nebraska whom the Gators opened the season against on Friday night. 

The Gators fought hard and won the first set 27-25 before falling in three straight by scores of 25-15, 25-16, and 25-21. 

Senior hitter Alex Holston led the Gators with 18 kills and also had 9 digs. Junior hitter Carli Snyder had a double-double with 16 kills and 16 digs. Junior Rhamat Alhassan also tallied 10 kills. 

The Huskers were led by four players reaching double digit kills, Kadie Rolfzen (16), Mikaela Foecke (15), Andie Malloy (12), and Briana Holman (10).
Nebraska setter Kelly Hunter finished the night with 47 assists, 13 digs, 7 kills, 2 aces and 2 blocks. 

Up next: #6Florida takes on Oregon in their second match at the Vert Challenge on Saturday at 9:00PM EST.
