GAINESVILLE, FL- The Florida Gators soccer team played a complete game and defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide by a score of 6-0. Fans and players alike shared in the post game fireworks display, but on the field only the Gators put on a show.
Senior Savannah Jordan started the scoring in the 14th minute with a diving score after a perfect cross by sophomore Mayra Pelayo. In the 36th minute sophomore Melanie Monteagudo headed Meggie Dougherty Howard’s attempt into the net.
Florida scored four goals in an eight minute span in the second half, with goals from Dougherty Howard, Brooke Sharp, Pamela Begic, and Kit Loferski.
Florida’s defense did not allow a shot in the entire match and limited Alabama’s offensive chances with only one corner kick.
Florida improves to 11-4 overall and 6-3 in SEC play. Alabama falls to 8-7-1 and 3-5-1 in SEC play. Both teams have two more conference games before the SEC tournament begins on November 1.
