The Florida Gators football team’s Twitter account officially named Randy Shannon as the new Defensive Coordinator on Friday.
Shannon has served as the Gators Associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator, and linebackers coach for the last two seasons. He will take over for departed Geoff Collins, who took a head coaching job at Temple last month.
Shannon was the interim DC in the Outback Bowl, a 30-3 win dominated by Florida’s defense.
Shannon was the head coach at Miami from 2007-10 and compiled a 28-22 record before being let go in the Nevin Shapiro mess.
Shannon has served as linebackers coach at TCU and Arkansas since leaving Miami. His TCU team had one of the top defenses in the entire country.
Shannon is known as a tireless recruiter with a vast knowledge of football and South Florida.
All in all, Florida made the right choice.
