After losing in Orlando in walk-off fashion on March 24, No. 5 Florida failed to seek revenge on No. 23 UCF in Gainesville Wednesday night.

The Gators failed to score a run for the first time since 2019. The Knights tagged Florida southpaw Katie Chronister for four runs in the top of the first before she recorded an out. A leadoff double and back-to-back singles led to UCF cleanup hitter Shannon Doherty’s three-run bomb to left — her 10th homer this season. An inning later, Doherty poked a RBI single off Florida left-hander Ryleee Trlicek to extend the lead to 5-0.

Trlicek gave up a two-run homer in the third inning but settled in nicely until freshman southpaw Haley Pittman came in for relief in the top of the sixth. Pittman, who made her collegiate debut, threw only 28 pitches and retired six straight batters to end a sluggish night at the plate on a positive note in the circle.

Florida managed only seven baserunners on three singles and a pair of walks and hit-by-pitches. UCF right-hander Breanna Vasquez hurled her first complete game this season and struck out eight Gators — a season-high.
