The Florida Gators are now 3-2 after defeating a pair of in-state, mid-major programs in midweek action.
One day after collecting fourteen hits to beat Stetson University, the Gators defeated UNF behind a dominant effort on the mound as they defeated the Ospreys 3-1 on Wednesday.
Sophomore RHP Brandon Sproat (W, 1-1) got the start on the mound for the Gators and overcame a hit batter with his first pitch to hurl five innings of one run ball while earning his first victory of 2022.
Sproat was followed by Blake Purnell and Ryan Slater (S, 2), who combined to throw four innings of ball, allowing just four base hits and walking none.
The Gators got on the scoreboard first as Tucker Talbott grounded out to short to score Wyatt Langford in the second inning.
Florida added two more runs with Colby Halter’s homer to center in the third inning.
The Ospreys finally got one back in the fifth as they led off the frame with three straight singles before Sproat retired two on strikes. However, a two-out walk forced in a run before the threat was eliminated.
