The Florida Gators are in need of bodies in the quarterback room. Starting QB Anthony Richardson declared for the 2023 NFL Draft and backup Jalen Kitna’s arrest made the position group quite light over the last month.

After looking at several players from the transfer portal at the position, the Gators seem to have landed on Wisconsin transfer Graham Mertz, according to G. Allan Taylor of The Athletic.

Mertz was a three year starter at Wisconsin before announcing his intention to transfer on December 4. Wisconsin fired his head coach, Paul Chryst, midway through the 2022 season.

While with the Badgers, Mertz redshirted his freshman year in 2019, but was the team’s starter over the last three years. His career completion percentage while at Wisconsin was 59.5%. He threw 38 touchdowns and 26 interceptions over the last three years.

The 6’3 signal caller technically has two years of eligibility due to the Covid rules from 2020.
