Florida head coach Jim McElwain has made the linebacker position a priority in the 2017 recruiting cycle.  Florida has already welcomed James Houston from Plantation, FL on campus as an early enrollee and also has a verbal commitment from  Ventrell Miller of Lakeland, FL at the linebacker position.

On Saturday night, three-star linebacker Nick Smith announced his commitment to Florida.  Smith was originally committed to North Carolina State, but backed off on January 15.  Smith took his official visit to Florida on January 20.  Florida was seen as the leader for the Orlando prospect.

 

Smith is 6-3 and 205 lbs and had offers from other schools such as Oregon, Nebraska, Michigan State, and Arizona.  Smith is listed by 247 sports as the 82nd ranked OLB in the 2017 class and the 161st ranked player in Florida.
