• Ronni Williams selected in 2017 WNBA Draft

Ronni Williams was selected with the 22nd overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft on Wednesday. Williams was selected by the Indiana Fever. Williams becomes the 18th former Gator selected in the WNBA or the now defunct ABL drafts.

Williams became the first Gator to lead the SEC in scoring by averaging 20.1 points during SEC play. Williams led Florida in scoring for three straight seasons and finished with more than 1,400 points and 800 career rebounds.

    Williams was a 2017 honorable mention All-American.

Williams is the first Gator to be picked in the WNBA draft since 2013 when Jennifer George was drafted 31st overall, also by Indiana. Williams is also the earliest drafted Gator since 2004 when Vanessa Hayden was taken seventh overall.

Williams’ father, Rodney played basketball at Florida in the early 80s.

  • 4-star RB commits to Florida

The Florida Gators landed a talented running back from New Jersey on Thursday. Iverson Clement announced via twitter his commitment to Florida with the caption: “Let’s eat! If you ain’t a Gator, you Gator bait!”

Clement is a 6-0 190 lb athlete from Mount Holly, NJ.  Clement had scholarship offers from a number of big-name programs, including Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State, and Tennessee and is part of the 2018 recruiting cycle.

  • Florida G Eric Hester to transfer

Guard Eric Hester plans to transfer from the University of Florida per scout.com amd confirmed by Gators head coach Mike White on Wednesday.

Hester is a 6-3 167 pound player that was in White’s first recruiting class. Hester played in 20 games, mostly in a reserve role, and averaged 2.2 points per game.

Hester did play a key role in the Gators 106-71 win at LSU. Hester played 17 minutes off the bench and scored 16 points on 5-5 shooting from behind the three point arc.

Hester will have to sit out one calendar year as per NCAA transfer rules.

  • Kyle Trask out 4-6 weeks with torn meniscus

Feliepe Franks appeared to have the upper hand in the Florida quarterback battle after the annual Orange and Blue Debut. On Wednesday, we may have found out why.

Nick De La Torre of GatorCountry.com first reported that Kyle Trask will undergo surgery for a torn meniscus. Trask is expected to be out four to six weeks.

With Luke Del Rio already sidelined, Florida is severely lacking in the position heading into fall camp.

There have been multiple reports that former Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire and the Florida coaching staff have mutual interest. Zaire has recently followed many of Florida’s playmakers on Instagram prompting even more rumors of his inevitable transfer.

The only hurdle Zaire is facing is the SEC policy regarding graduate transfers meeting certain requirements. Under current rules Florida is unable to take on a graduate transfer, but SEC commissioner Greg Sankey has shown a desire to change this rule.

Obviously Florida coaches and Zaire hope that changes.

  • Watch: Tim Tebow homers in first minor league at-bat

It didn’t take Tim Tebow very long to make an impression in baseball.  Tebow hit a two-run home run to the opposite field in the bottom of the second inning.  This was Tebow’s first career minor league at-bat after stints in the Arizona Fall League and Major League Spring Training with the New York Mets.

Watch Tebow crush his first home run:

Tebow drove a 2-1 pitch from Augusta Green Jackets starting left-handed pitcher, Domenic Mazza.  The sold out crowd went wild with many patrons dressed in Florida Gators orange and blue.

Tebow struggled in both the AFL and in the Grapefruit League.  During Arizona Fall League play, Tebow hit .194.  Tebow followed Fall League play by hitting in just four of his 27 at-bats in the spring.
