  • Gainesville, FL-  Wednesday night was the first WCA Gator Talk show for the football season. It was also a night of nostalgia for many Gators fans as former Heisman Trophy winner and National Champion coach Steve Spurrier was on hand.

Current Florida Athletic Director Jeremy Foley was also on hand. Foley has announced his retirement effective October 1.

Many fans took the opportunity to thank both Coach Spurrier and Foley for their contributions while also asking questions about their favorite moments.

Spurrier told the standing-room only crowd at Piesanos that he has no interest in coaching the team, but that he will be used as support for head coach Jim McElwain and his staff.

Foley answered a question about his interest in writing a book by saying he has no interest and even joked that it would require a large advance. Spurrier responded to Foley’s answer by saying he had a new book coming out and will be holding a signing at the University Bookstore the day of the first game.

Florida will be honoring Spurrier prior to the first game against UMASS on September 3. They have already begun the process of naming the stadium after him. The stadium will be known as Steve Spurrier-Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

  • Amherst, MA-  University of Massachusetts head football coach Mark Whipple has named a starting quarterback for the Minutemen’s season opener at Florida.

Sophmore Ross Comis will get the start after outplaying junior college transfer Andrew Ford in camp.

Comis is a dual threat quarterback from Weirton, WV.  In 2015 Comis completed 15 of 21 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns.

Florida plays against UMASS on September 3, at 7:30 PM.

  • Gainesville-  Adarius Lemons has changed his mind again.

The number one ranked running back in the state has once again committed to play football at Florida in 2017.

Last night Lemons said on Twitter that he was going to decommit from Florida and focus on his priorities.

    Today Lemons tweeted the following:

Lemons, from Clearwater, had been a long time committ for North Carolina before changing his mind after Florida’s Friday Night Lights recruiting event.

SEC Country’s Zach Abolverdi first reported the story.

  • ESPN has compiled a list of who to watch in NCAA volleyball for 2016.

Rhamat Alhassan, Florida’s 6-4 junior middle blocker, has made the list.

Per the ESPN report seen, in full, here:

“There’s arguably no better athlete in the sport than the Gators’ imposing defensive stalwart, who ranked second nationally in blocks a year ago. (If you’ve seen her vertical leap, you know why.) The chemistry that the 6-foot-4 junior shares at Florida with former club teammate Alex Holston, also from Maryland, makes the Gators a threat to reach the final four that has eluded them since 2003. Honors: 2015 AVCA All-America first team”

  • Tim Tebow hasn’t played in a regular season NFL game since 2012. However, that hasn’t kept his name out of the news.

Last month ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Tebow was going to hold a private workout for MLB teams.

ESPN’s Darren Rovell has reported recently that many teams are interested in at least watching the workouts.

Tebow will hold his workout on August 30, and every MLB team is expected to have a representative in attendance. The workout will be held in Los Angeles.

Tebow was an All-State baseball player his junior year of high school. He had a .494 batting average, before choosing to focus on football.

  • Gainesville-  Clearwater RB Adarius Lemons has decommitted from the Gators 2017 recruiting class.

  • Gainesville-  Florida Gators soccer star Savannah Jordan was named the Southeastern Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for her contributions to two Florida victories last weekend.

Jordan scored a goal in both games, and also added four assists. Jordan set a career high with three assists in Florida’s 5-2 season opening win against Iowa State.

Jordan was dominant on Sunday against Florida Atlantic, scoring a goal and assisting on another. Jordan may have had several more goals had some of her shots not hit the goal posts.

Jordan’s goals this weekend were number 66, and 67 in her career. The latter moved Jordan into third place in the Gators all-time scoring recordbook.

Jordan will lead the Florida soccer team on a west coast trip against top programs at Stanford and UCLA this weekend.
